Several of us went through the Mark Rothko Retrospective at the Portland Art Museum today. A nice touch would be some Mozart music piped into the galleries. After all, he did listen to classical music while he painted.
This first image is of his only self-portrait. Off to the left you can see a New York subway scene.
And here's an image of three of his later works. Paul Allen owns the Rothko immediately to the woman's right. It's not pictured because no photos are allowed of it. Rothko painted these images to invoke emotions in the viewer. Stand close, he painted them large to be intimate. Surround yourself in the painting as she is doing.
