Thomas Lauderdale and Michael Francis

059/365 ~ Thomas Lauderdale and Michael Francis

Here they are with the Oregon Symphony after Lauderdale had completed his performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor. A great evening that ended with a performance of Marquez' Danzon No. 2.

Marquam Hill

A great place to view Portland is from the OHSU campus on Marqum Hill. Travel up by walking, driving a car, riding the bus or taking the tram. Whatever method you use, go to the ninth floor of the Physician's Pavillion and you'll see views like these...

Walking Past the Western Motel

When you're on the third floor of the Portland Art Museum's CMCA you'll notice that the face from Rainer Fetting's painting is staring at you through the window of Edward and Nancy Keinholz' Western Motel.

New Rule

Ah, the Portland Art Museum is now allowing non-flash photography in certain areas of the museum. Oh, the Joy to quote William Clark.

Here is a vignette from the Northwest gallery on the fourth floor of the Hoffman wing. Chihuly, Russo, Chihuly reflected, Morris, and Gregory Grennon.

Friday Night Busker

You have to admire his set-up utilizing some interesting Vodka bottles along with his plastic buckets.

Tenors and Turandot

Tonight was opera night. Portland Opera's Turandot played out with a modern set and staging... austere, leaving your eyes to wander over the starkness and enjoy the nuance of texture and light. All the more time for your brain to focus on the singing. Well done, we especially loved the tenor ...

and since there's no recording of tonight's performance available, I chose Franco Corelli's Nessun Dorma...

Dog and Horse

Another toy horse sighting on NW 23rd. The small black chihuahua demanded to have his photo taken with this beauty on the Overton corner. That was in front of Starbucks and certainly did stop traffic.

Yuja Wang with the Oregon Symphony

Tonight was the third night of Yuja Wang performing with the Oregon Symphony this month. She had two encores after her Rachmaninoff Concerto 3. She was amazingly wonderful.

Sock Monkeys on Display

One fun part of walking down NW 23rd is to look in the shop windows. Three Monkeys is especially fun. And today was no different. Sock Monkeys reigned supreme...

Preparing to Mount

Officer Wollstein had just walked his horse from the corner of NW 9th and Front to the Encore. As he walked along this ledge, he spoke with his horse in the most gentle voice.

Between Meals at Hot Lips

Hot Lips is a great place to have lunch, dinner or an in between meal snack. Today the light from the sun at around 4:00 was perfect! We chose to be indoors but some people were outside as if it were spring!

Steel Bridge Raised

The only thing better than watching the bridge rise would be to be on the platform as it goes up!
