Amsterdam Plaza

This plaza could be of importance to you. On some days there is an open air book market. On others it's just people, but more importantly the American Book Company is on the left. Toilets and water are available as well as books in English in case your Dutch is not up to par. What we've found is that about half of the Dutch speak English. It seems to be generational... if you learned it in school and are now 50 and haven't practiced your skills are probably greatly diminished. On the other hand, our Dutch is minimal. We've had some very nice encounters with the Dutch young and old who have as much English as we have Dutch.
