Dance Horse Chooses the Pocket on the Right

At the Portland Art Museum, visitors can walk through the outside sculpture court for free. Dance Horse is a perennial favorite even on days with rain and drizzle.

Willamette River

Walk north of the Steel Bridge here in Portland Oregon and you'll normally be able to look down on a small sand and rock beach area. Not so much with our record rainfall ~ today the water was lapping up to the sidewalk area.

Happy Furry Friday

This scene is at Hip Hound on NW 23rd here in Portland. Bentley, the large yellow lab, is one of two shop dogs who meets and greets other dogs and their owners. As you can see he is comfortable around small dogs and Django is comfortable around dogs whose heads are as large as his body!

If you're in the Portland area drop by and see Bentley and his "brother" Malcolm and their owner Jen Heckmann and her crew there at Hip Hound (located between Hoyt and Irving on NW 23rd).

Lichtenstein Reflection

.
Leaving the Portland Art Museum today, I found that the windy day had turned to a rainy, windy day. Roy Lichtenstein's Brushstroke was casting a wonderful reflection across the courtyard.

The big event Wednesday...

The Timbers played an exhibition game against the Ajax team from Amsterdam. The Dutch did outdo the hometown team but our guys acquitted themselves well. Go Timbers!!!

The Day After the Rapture

.
In case you missed the Rapture as many of us did, you can go to the office in this building here in Portland, Oregon. It's on the corner of SW Washington and 13th.

"Rapture" ~ Portland Style

.
May 21, the end of the world, Rapture. In Portland, the Timbers rapture was a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew. The game was not necessarily a pretty one, but a win is a win.

Day of Rapture ~ Timbers

And it's especially sweet when the winning goal is made by a defender. Eric Brunner was glowing with Portland Rapture as his header was the winning goal and was scored against his former team.

Lake in Washington

For a change of pace, Django and I drove to Washington to a small lake that was quite tranquil. It was a great change of pace.

Another beautiful day today, two in a row. Early this morning I walked on Nw 23rd and came across this woman just starting her morning routine.

One of the best parts of the iPhone is the camera apps. These two were done with Camera+. Lots of fun and kept me busy as I was transiting home from NYC to PDX.

Oregon Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall

The Oregon Symphony Orchestra played an extraordinary performance at Carnegie Hall tonight. The New Yorkers who we mingled with at intermission and at the conclusion were totally amazed at the ability of this "regional" orchestra. Hats off to all of the members of the orchestra who were under the direction of Carlos Kalmar.

Guggenheim and Accordions

.
The Great Upheaval is one of the Guggenheim's current exhibitions. It showcases works of art from 1900-1918 and includes 100 pieces from that period. Included are many Franz Marc paintings and sculptures by Brancusi.

More Bryant Park

.
Bryant Park in New York City is like catnip for me. There's the trees, there's the people, there's what the people are doing, there's the lawn, there's the food. Second day that we've spent time there.

Museum of Modern Art Courtyard

.
The courtyard at the Museum of Modern Art is a great place to rest after spending time looking at art inside the museum. Of course there's art right next to you here too but there's also more people. This couple seemed so happy together.

Tulips Bloom in Windows

Actually tulips probably will bloom wherever there's moisture and cold weather. Here are some lovelies from our early morning walk in the West Village.

And here's a portion of another George Segal sculpture. There's a bench involved here too, much like at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Out at Christopher Park you can sit next to the couple who are on the bench, not like at MMoA.

Benches at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

.
George Segal's Three People and Four Benches sits on the second floor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Surrounded by black tape it presents a challenge for security. Do people pay any attention to the almost invisible barrier? Some do, some don't. Those who don't are reminded by the security officer and if they get past security then the piercing sound from the motion detector lets them and everyone else know that they've breached the barrier. Much like Donald Judd's current sculpture at the Portland Art Museum, Segal's creation is veritable catnip!

And on a more surreal level, Max Ernst's portrait also mesmerizes.

Walking in NYC

The blog is on vacation. Here's a view of the Apple Store on W. 14 in Manhattan. Too bad the neighborhood association in Portland's Nob Hill area nixed the Apple Store twice. Instead we have a building that houses a bank and FedEx. Neither are bad but an Apple Computer store would have been a boom to the neighborhood. It would have definitely looked better than the Plaid Pantry there on Glisan and NW 23rd.

Ever wonder how your pastries are made. Visit any number of bakeries in Portland and you'll discover how. Out on NW Thurman, St. Honore Bakery has a counter seating area with a view of the process right in front of you.

People on the Street

What a glorious day. Everyone was out enjoying themselves. First up is a woman at Director Park, followed by Michael who has been missing for sometime from the corner of SW 10th and Burnside. The people on NW 23rd were enjoying their tea and the sun on the steps at the corner of Johnson. Dream More everyone.
